euronews wins European Communication Award 2009
The news service euronews has received the third annual European Communication Award, which was presented by the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD). The channel was recognised for its solid contribution to communications across borders and for the way in which it emphasises the notion of an Europeanised format of communication. The award was accepted by Phillippe Cayla, Chairman of the Executive Board of euronews, in front of several hundred guests from the worlds of politics, business and the media.
The award recognised the channel’s efforts to empower EU citizens to become better informed about how decisions made in Brussels can affect them in their home and in their day to day lives. By bringing the idea of ‘Europe’ to its citizens, euronews helps to create a shared sense of European identity in its viewers. Previous winners of the award include UEFA (in 2007) and the European Central Bank (in 2008).
The presentation of the award marked the highlight of the European Communication Summit, which was hosted by the EACD in partnership with the magazine, Communication Director. The European Communication Summit gathered over three hundred communications professionals from across Europe in Brussels to hear presentations and discussions by over sixty speakers with a wide range of perspectives on the field of communications.
