Löscher wins European Communication Award 2011

05.07.2011

Peter Löscher, CEO of Siemens, has received the fifth annual European Communication Award, presented by the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) at a gala ceremony in Brussels in front of an audience of over 300 prominent communication professionals. Mr Löscher won the award in recognition of the enormous global impact he has had as a European communicator in 2010, and in anticipation of his future achievements in this field.
Throughout 2010, Peter Löscher communicated with consummate skill as he undertook the mammoth task of restructuring Siemens, dealing with the negative perceptions of layoffs and positively promoting prospects for a broad-based recovery at the German industrial giant. He continued to champion green issues, speaking eloquently about Siemens’ intentions to grow revenues from green technology. Never afraid of making a stand when necessary, Mr Löscher - in his function as Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business - took a communications risk by speaking out against the business and investment climate in China at a meeting with Chinese premier When Jiabao in July 2010.

The winner of this year’s award was voted for by EACD members from a shortlist compiled on the basis of the 2010 results of CARMA International’s CEO Stockwatch Index. Last year’s award was given to Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat.

The presentation of the award marked the highlight of the European Communication Summit 2011, hosted by the EACD in partnership with Communication Director magazine. The European Communication Summit gathered around 600 communications professionals from across Europe in Brussels to hear presentations and discussions by over 50 speakers with a wide range of perspectives on the field of communications.
