Due to new technological possibilities, internal communication is undergoing rapid development that will change it forever. The development is a democratisation process, i.e. internal communication is following in the footsteps of our private communication: Mass emails with bunches of CCs will be replaced by feeds and apps.
But what are the pitfalls of focusing on social media for internal communication? Will companies dare to open their social media platforms and let their employees communicate freely? And how can digital platforms support knowledge sharing and co-creation across work functions, organisational boundaries and physical locations in different countries and cultures?

Åsa Degermark, Head of Communications, GF Strategy and Technology, Ericsson AB
Åsa holds the position as Head of Communication at Ericsson’s unit for strategy and technology, managing the units internal and external communication globally. She has 17 years of experience from B2B marketing and communications and she has been instrumental in the company’s digital evolution of communication. In 2015, she was awarded for “Best internal event” in Sweden for the R&D Digital Summit, a 100% real time digital communication experience for Ericsson’s 3000 R&D leaders.
Helle Helgren, Corporate Editor, Stakeholder Communications & Sustainability, Velux Group
Helle is Corporate Editor at the VELUX Group, responsible for the global news flow at various internal communication channels and for creating and managing a global network of editors and change agents. She has extensive experience in driving employee adoption in a global organisation. Helle gives some insights into using Yammer as a successful internal social media channel in the VELUX Group to connect, communicate and collaborate.
Simon Warnich, Senior Consultant, Communication & Social Media, BDO
Simon is responsible for digital marketing and communication (internally and externally) at BDO Denmark – one of the largest auditing and consulting firms in the Denmark. He has been part of BDO’s marketing team for two years, and in that period he has been part of a digital turnaround that includes - but is not limited to - a new website, increased focus on email automation, a multifunctional app, an entry into the world of social media, various infotainment activities, video production and employee advocacy. Simon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative literature, media and communication and a Master’s degree in cognitive science.
