Regional event

Warsaw

Marzyciele i Rzemieslnicy. Dom Innowacji Spolecznych, ul. Bracka 25, 3rd floor
Time:
09.00 - 12.00

As a follow-up from our discussion in June 2017, we will continue with the motive of fake news and how it influences the decision-making process for different stakeholders. We will try to discern what is true and what is not in the reality surrounding us and how decision-makers tend to behave when making viable decisions.  We will also discuss the ground they make their decisions on. It will be interesting to hear whether these decisions are justified and generate positive outcomes.

“On page one of any political science textbook it will say that democracy relies on people being informed about the issues so they can have a debate and make a decision,” says Stephan Lewandowsky, a cognitive scientist at the University of Bristol in the UK, who studies the persistence and spread of misinformation. “Having a large number of people in a society who are misinformed and have their own set of facts is absolutely devastating and extremely difficult to cope with.” (Source: BBC Future, Lies, propaganda and fake news; a challenge for our age by Richard Grey)

Here is an overview of the topics that moderator Małgorzata Bonikowska, THINKTANK, will explore with the panelists and audience:

* Fake news – why it is a challenge, or is it
* Abundance of information – what to do with it, how to select, how to use it effectively
* How to communicate to audiences within organizations
* Scientific approach – cognitive bias, behavioral approach (Richard Thaler, Robert Schiller)
* Living in a bubble - examples
* Which information is credible, which is not
* On what ground do we make our decisions
* How do our decisions influence our life, business, community, environment; do they produce positive outcomes
