Who can apply?
Communication departments of companies, associations, NGOs, and political institutions can submit their communication campaigns or projects in all areas of the communications function such as crisis communication, media relations, reputation, change communication, public affairs or social media.
The submitted projects need to be initiated and implemented by in-house communication departments. We cannot accept entries from representatives of agencies or consultancies.
Organisations and agencies are also invited to suggest particularly successful in-house teams they have worked with.
When is the deadline?
The deadline for the 2017 European Communication Award is April 30 2017.
What does the application contain?
For each application, information about the organisation is requested. Submissions will be exclusively from in-house communication teams.
2. General information about the project or campaign
Each submitted entry should contain the following information:
- Summary of the project at a maximum length of 400 characters (including spaces) – Please note: This summary will be published when being shortlisted.
- Time frame of the project
- Budget (not a mandatory field, information will not be published)
- Number of employees who worked on the project
3. Project description
A short description of max. 2.000 characters (including spaces) must be provided including the following:
- initial situation leading to the project or campaign
- objectives of the project
- the target group
- strategic considerations and concept
- details of the implementation
- evaluation of the results
4. Additional material and links
Material illustrating the project such as planning documents, press releases, photos, power point presentations (please no more than 10 slides), videos and online material (websites, screenshots, links, social media accounts).
What format is suitable for the uploaded material?
For texts: pdf
For images: jpg/jpeg, gif, png
For videos/movies: mov, flv, avi (in the highest possible quality, maximum 50 MB, or as a link to a website where the movie can be seen)
For presentations: pdf, ppt (Ideally you convert ppt files to pdf format)
Which criteria will be considered by the jury in the selection process?
Strategy – assessing the strategic and conceptual approach and focus of each entry and the fit between the chosen strategy and the development of the project, as well as the integration of various communication tools.
Innovation/creativity – did the applying communications team pursue new technical or strategic methods? Evaluating the creativity of the project both in concept and implementation.
Implementation – assessing the continuity and quality of communication or dialogue with the target group(s) as well as the management and internal organisation of the project.
Evaluation – considering the results of the project in relation to the stated targets as well as the resources used in working towards achieving the results.
Team collaboration (this does not apply to the Young Communicator of the Year) – the degree of individual involvement and breakdown of responsibilities between different team members.
How are the applications evaluated?
After the application deadline, the jury reviews all submissions online and determines a shortlist of three nominees in each category. The nominees will be informed in June 2017.
Two representatives of the communications departments of the final three of each category as well as the three finalists of the Young Communicators Award will be invited to join the European Communication Summit on June 29th and 30th 2017 at the Square Meeting Center in Brussels.
All nominees will be asked to submit short videos introducing themselves and their projects as well as to present their projects in front of an experienced audience of in-house communicators on June 29th who will vote for the winner. The teams and young communicator receiving most votes will be honoured with the European Communication Award.
When will the shortlist be announced?
The shortlist will be published in June 2017. The nominees will be informed after the jury evaluated all entries.
What is the fee?
Submission to the European Communication Award is free of charge.
When will the winners be announced?
The final winners will be announced at the European Communication Summit in Brussels on June 29th 2017.
