Sonia Khan, Press Officer at the Department of Work and Pensions UK, is the winner of this year's Young Communicators Award.
This is the third annual Young Communicators Award, which is presented at the European Communication Summit hosted by the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) and Communication Director Magazine. The award honours outstanding and innovative communications projects which actively contribute to shaping the future of the communications profession.
Sonia Khan developed the successful #notjustforboys campaign. #notjustforboys opened up choice and opportunities for women by tackling outdated attitudes like ‘girls are too weak to be builders’ that deterred them from careers in male-dominated industries. Engineering and science, key growth areas, miss out on vital talent because women are woefully underrepresented and this needed challenging. Supported by the UK Prime Minister and over 100 businesses, senior individuals and celebrities, the cross-Government social media-led campaign reached more than 67 million people across the globe through targeted infographics, events and third party interviews.
The European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) brings in-house communication professionals together to network, exchange ideas and discuss the latest news and information relevant to their work. Through various Regional and Working Groups on specific communications topics and with publications such as the Communication Director magazine, service brochures and studies, the EACD works to advance professional qualification, and to promote the visibility and standing of the profession.
